My Body, Your Art

(rough copy)

I dare you to paint me
To convey my soul through your art
Let me first taste a glass of wine
Let it drip from my lips as I try to forget
For the one I loved is no longer here

Paint my melancholy
Paint my sadness
Paint my madness
Paint all of me or nothing at all!

Help me forget that I am dying
Each breath I take one step closer to my death
Help me forget what love felt like
Yet remind me of what it meant

Paint me before dawn
Let my naked body be exposed to the light
Paint my curves
Paint my passions
Don't let your hands tremble as you capture me
Paint me with intensity

Undress me with your art and your gaze
Remind me of every touch and every kiss drawn on my skin
Help me travel back in time when my love and I were one

Paint me with anger and fury
Expose all my secrets on canvass
With the colors of the rainbow paint my desires
Paint with white my soul
Paint the blackness of my pain
For he is no longer here
And tonight I drink alone.

I believe, with quiet fervor, that one soul can shift the course of many. I write not from abstraction, but from the raw immediacy of lived experience and learned studies - from the labyrinth of my own challenges, triumphs, questions and awakenings. In offering the contours of my inner world, I hope to awaken in others a remembrance of their own power, their own unclaimed wholeness.
