Stone’s Yearning

This poem was inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche, who wrestle with the theme of enduring pain and the value of living as a free-spirited individual, recognizing that freedom demands ultimate responsibility.
“Become who you are!".... encapsulates Nietzsche’s belief in the importance of self-realization and listening to your own inner voice rather than conforming to societal expectations. To be yourself is the greatest gift you can give yourself; although the world often imposes heavy costs for choosing individuality over conforming to mass-produced personalities, personal freedom can render even the most challenging experiences bearable and meaningful.

Beneath the polished gleam
Marble ache with yearning
Wishing to feel the pulse of life
Through layers smooth and still.

Where crowds would gaze at him in rapture
Hearts enthralled….
By grandeur silent yet profoundly deep.

He marveled at their storm-tossed souls…
The tumult of their love, rage, pain and hope
Their joys…
Their desires…
Each fleeting, vibrant breath
He craved to feel it all!

He sought to feel the ache that threads through mortal lives
To wade within their sorrows and delights
To taste the light and dark as wisdom’s flame ignites
Life’s fleeting dream, he pondered
Yet the dream would not stop calling him.

He yearned to breathe the air and dive in the sea
To see the world through the eyes of a lover
To sense the fullness of existence here
Each day drawing him closer to death
The ultimate night’s embrace.

Yet despite this, he ached to be mortal
To live unchained by fear of what may come
For heroes tread where boundaries dissolve…
To feel it all, he’d happily pay the price.

In anguish he cried to the Gods
“Grant me the touch of fleeting human days
Exchange my timeless stone for warmth and tears
Let me feel the fire of love through a kiss”
He wished to burn with passion’s searing flame
To merge with life, unbound by cold restraint
To dwell among us…
Free spirited…
Wild and Free.

In joy, he’d cast aside his stony form
To embrace the call of life
Vibrant, unwavering and bold
He cried and cried to the Gods
Until they finally released their hold.

In a silent dance of stone and dreams
Art relinquished its cold confinement
Becoming flesh to experience the world
“to be human is a glorious thing,” his heart proclaimed
And through his heart divinity was named.

I believe, with quiet fervor, that one soul can shift the course of many. I write not from abstraction, but from the raw immediacy of lived experience and learned studies - from the labyrinth of my own challenges, triumphs, questions and awakenings. In offering the contours of my inner world, I hope to awaken in others a remembrance of their own power, their own unclaimed wholeness.
