We live in a society that seduces us into the lie that the harder we push ourselves, the more exhausted we become, the more valuable we are. We are taught to believe that we are only worthy of joy, of pleasure, of love, when we are broken…when we have given everything we have and are nothing but empty vessels, barely holding on. Only then, when we have sacrificed all, are we allowed to feel the sweetness of life. Only then, when we are mere shadows of ourselves, can we whisper, I deserve happiness. But this is not true…this is the trap we’ve been led into.
There are places, though, like Italy, where they rejoice in the beautiful saying…“the sweetness of doing nothing” – this is not to reflect or promote laziness or overindulgence but as an embrace of our rightful place in the universe. It is a deep recognition that we are not meant to be slaves to time, to only work and to relentless grind. No, we are meant to be the masters of our lives…gentle stewards of our time, energy and joy. The sweetness of doing nothing is not a retreat from life but a reclamation of it. It is the art of savoring life, not in the frantic hustle, but in the stillness, the presence…the being.
In these moments of “nothing”, we remember who we truly are…not the robots but beautiful spirits, experiencing life through our body and its senses, as well as our soul and mind. Not the machines of productivity, but the creators of beauty. We, too, deserve joy simply by existing, simply by breathing. The sweetness of doing nothing is the rebellion against a world that tells us our worth is tied to what we give, rather than to who we are. Let us remember: we are worthy, not because we have nothing left, but because we are enough just as we are. Today, I shall fuse a simple Tantric practice with Italian philosophy…the result, well, only you can determine that. We are often discipline with the things we don’t like to do but we have to do, how about bringing a bit of that discipline to doing something little that you may not be used to, but which is something your soul and body will thank you for….
Ectasy….such a word, and yet, it holds the power to sweep us away into the unknown, to pull us into the vast depths of our own being. It is a state recognized by neuroscience as an expanded, sacred shift in consciousness, a delicate bridge between our earthly selves and something much grander, something divine. For centuries, we have sought it…through fasting, through dance, through the intoxicating embrace of love, and for some, even through the mind-altering gifts of nature. All paths, all sacred journeys leading us to that magical, unexplainable place.
In Tantra, we are invited to step deeper into the essence of life itself, to surrender wholl…not just to another, but to existence in its fullest form. Love, in its most intimate expression – sexuality – is the sacred portal to ecstasy. Tantra whispers that to experience this blissful state, one must first learn to open completely, to dissolve the walls around the heart, and embrace the flow of life as it is.
For those who walked the ancient paths of Tantra, the universe itself was seen as a cosmic dance of union…Shiva and Shakti entwined in a perfect embrace, the masculine and the feminine, the light and the dark, the known and the unknown. All these opposites exist not to be divided, but to merge into something greater. And it is through this sacred union, this divine duality, that we can taste the infinite.
Imagine…every moment, the very universe vibrates in ecstasy. Each breath, each touch, is a mirror of that universal pulse. When we love, when we make love, we are not simply two bodies, but the cosmos itself, rediscovering its own rhythm, its own heartbeat. A human encounter, a sacred dance of passion, is nothing less than a microcosmic reflection of this grand, cosmic ecstasy.
In those precious moments of union…whether through touch, through breath, or in the heights of orgasm …the mind stills, the ego slips away, and we merge with all that is. We find yoga, a union, not just with a lover, but with the divine.
But what is this ecstasy, really? It is not just pleasure or fleeting joy. No, it is something much more profound. It is a wave of intense emotion, a flood of sensations, of connection, that lifts us above the ordinary, that lets us touch something sacred. Unlike happiness, which is a quiet, gentle joy, ecstasy is raw, it is powerful… ecstasy sweeps us off our feet, carries us away, and for a moment, we are no longer ourselves…but something much, much larger.
By its nature, ecstasy is brief, delicate like a fleeting blossom that blooms only for a moment before fading into the next. But oh, in that moment, it has the power to set us free…free from our worries, our doubts, the limitations we place upon ourselves. Ecstasy – the very word means “to stand outside oneself.” It carries us beyond what we know, into realms of new possibilities, new sensations, new emotions. Imagine someone bound by the heaviness of depression, suddenly breaking free, discovering a new range of feeling, new heights of emotion. That is the gift of ecstasy!
Step 1: Find a quiet space, and sit comfortably with your spine tall, your heart open. Notice the rhythm of time moving ever so gently. Take a slow, deep breath in, and let your chin fall softly toward your chest—no force, no strain, just surrender to the moment. Hold your breath, not with tension, but with curiosity. How does it feel to hold this breath inside? When you need to exhale, take in a little more air and slowly release it, letting the air flow out gently, as if the world itself were exhaling with you. Notice how your body responds—your throat, your chest, your whole being. How long did you hold your breath? Write down what you felt—every sensation, every emotion. Take a pause and reflect.
Step 2: Now, breathe again, but this time, let your lungs fill to two-thirds of their capacity. Repeat the same gentle steps as before. What changes? How does your body feel when it’s only partially full of air? What shifts in your mind? Write down your experience. How long can you hold the breath now? Was it different when your lungs were full versus when they were less so? Let every thought, every feeling pour onto the page as it arises.
You may think this is simple, even ordinary. But it is not. It is a key. A key to unlocking the sacred flow of breath, and through it, the gateway to higher states of consciousness. In these moments, you are learning to control the flow of energy within you. Without conscious breath, there is no path to ecstasy. Without surrendering to the breath, we cannot access the divine rhythm of the universe.
Through this gentle practice, through this art of breath, you will begin to feel the pull of something larger, something more profound. Ecstasy, the union with all that is, awaits you—not outside of you, but within you, in every breath, every moment, every beat of your heart.
