You Are

Since you left an emptiness fills great part of my soul
I search for you everywhere
My mind knows you won't be back 
Yet my heart can't accept such cruel reality
Within me the wrestling match goes on

When I close my eyes I can see you smiling
I can feel your arms wrapped around me tightly
I remember your eyes, your smell, your voice
If I stay still I can feel you close

A faint yet powerful veil divides us
Despite the ongoing war between heart and mind
My spirit knows the truth
You are not gone
You are just hidden from this reality 

Your spirit I can feel
You are the earth and the sea
You are the bright ray of sunshine after a summer storm
You are in the river that freely flows

You are in the horizon looking back
I find you within the words I write
I taste you in each word of wisdom and love

You are a part of life 
You are a part of me
You live despite your body being gone
You live every time I call your name
You live when my heart reaches out for yours

You were the fire I craved for
And the strength I needed
The truest of friends
With you by my side I was never defeated
No matter how far you may now be
I am with you as you are with me
