Poetry is the expression of soul; however, many times people shy away from what I call "Raw Poetry". Raw poetry is the type of poetry that brings to life subjects which many still find uncomfortable. Our society finds it easier to talk about sexual liberation yet still trembles whenever subjects such as mental and/or physical abuse, loss and trauma are brought up. I know this type of poetry can be hard for many to read, but the reality is, that by turning a blind eye or pretending to be deaf and mute when someone tries to bring forth the seriousness of the repercussions caused by abuse, we are simply promoting the continuing of silencing of victims, and feeding the already extensive ground that abusers need to thrive...all they need is to shame their victims into silence. Most who suffered through it and speak about it, aren't "victimizing" themselves, they are brave and strong; they are standing up demanding justice or at the very least awareness-- hoping to prevent another innocent person from enduring similar painful experiences. They are warriors who were victims, and should be commended instead of being chastised or be told that in order for their pain to be validated, they need to mentally castrate themselves from anything beautiful, sensual, loving, exhilarating that life has to offer....in other words, they have to be in shackles--another life sentence added to the one they already carry within. It is easy to say "just forgive and move on"--but I ask...if that had been you or someone you loved, how would you feel hearing those words? It is easy to judge when the pain is not on our own body. If you can't help, at least don't be part of the problem. Asking those who endured severe trauma to simply be silent, is not only ignorant and cruel but inhumane. To be humane, is not just words but actions. Let our actions be that of genuine compassion towards those who endured such experiences. And let us cheer them on instead, for their road isn't easy but every day, they are here trying. POETIC JUSTICE Only time knows the price I had to pay Only life knows the tears I have shed Each written word washes away the false shame That once a monster imposed on my name With each violent thrust, You proclaimed yourself my owner My tender body your so called addiction I was a young orphan girl You were supposed to be a man With every stab of your knife I could feel my tender heart beating faster Unable to move under your chest Like a chained slave to a sick master You destroyed parts of my mind Stabbing my soul without remorse My body already a corpse While you claim I was yours You hide behind your masks of grandeur But your money couldn't buy my silence Despite the violence you imposed I am a woman now, here standing Your laughter now turned to fear The one you thought broken did not disappear Shadows will remain your abode Truth cannot be hidden by your corrupted soul The helpless girl no longer is Your fear now meets my fury Run but you can't hide Your fragile world full of lies Now it is you who wakes afraid Now it's you who pleads and cries Your hell my heaven I have no sympathy for the devil Sofia E. An empowering intensity here as the reader. Nothing better than seeing someone channel to the benefit of their craft. Glad I stumbled here.
